Why translations from Bangkok are cheaper without losing DHA compliance
- We hold Thai civil-registry expertise in-house — no back-and-forth with a Thai correspondent office
- Bangkok labour cost lets us keep AUD 45–90 per standard document versus AUD 90–150 typical inside Australia
- All NAATI CPN stamps in Australia are equally valid regardless of where the practitioner is based — the register is federal
- Digital stamp is issued via NAATI's official watermarking system, verifiable by DHA case officers
DHA formatting checklist we enforce on every file
- CPN number, language pair and direction on page 1
- Statement of Truth using NAATI CoE 2022 wording
- Layout matching the source (seals, tables, signatures reproduced in place)
- Transliteration consistent with the applicant's passport MRZ
- File name convention: SURNAME_Firstname_DocType_YYYYMMDD.pdf

Practical guidance and pitfalls — NAATI Certified Translation (Thai ↔ English)
Australian authorities expect translations of non-English documents to come from a NAATI-certified practitioner, with the certification stamp, practitioner number and expiry visible on the translation itself. A translation certified only by a Thai government office is not an equivalent substitute.
Before you start (6 points)
- Critical
Check the practitioner in the public NAATI directory before you submit
Every certified practitioner holds a practitioner number that a case officer can look up in the public NAATI directory, together with the language pair and the direction they are certified for. Doing that lookup yourself before lodging takes a minute and removes the single most common reason a translation is questioned at assessment.

Order the correct direction: Thai into English is not the same certification as English into Thai
Certification is granted per direction. A practitioner certified for English into Thai cannot validly certify a Thai into English translation for an Australian authority. State the receiving country and the reading audience when you place the order so the correct direction is applied from the outset.

Scan the whole page, including reverse sides, seals and marginal endorsements
A certified translation mirrors everything visible on the source: letterhead, national emblem, seals, signature blocks, registrar annotations and any endorsement printed on the reverse. Sending only the front face produces an incomplete translation that has to be reissued, which usually costs more time than scanning properly once.

Brief the translator on the full set, not one document at a time
When several documents are lodged together, institution names, ministry names and qualification titles must read identically across the whole bundle. Telling the team upfront how many documents belong to one application lets them build a shared glossary, which prevents an assessor from reading two spellings as two different issuing bodies.

Confirm whether the receiving office accepts a digital certified file or requires a printed set
Online portals generally accept a PDF that carries the full certification wording, but registries, licensing boards and some courts still ask for a printed copy bearing the stamp. Ask before ordering so the correct number of printed sets is produced in one run instead of a second delivery later.

What gets documents rejected (6 points)
- Critical
Assuming a Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs certified translation replaces NAATI certification
The two systems answer different questions. Thai legalisation confirms the authenticity of signatures and seals for use abroad, while NAATI certification identifies an accredited translator standing behind the accuracy of the wording. Applicants who supply only the former are frequently asked to resubmit, which restarts the processing clock.

Lodging a translation whose certification period had already lapsed on the date of stamping
Certification is time-limited and must be current on the day the translation is certified. Reusing a file prepared years earlier for a fresh application invites a request for evidence. Check the expiry printed beside the stamp and have the document reissued when the date has passed.
Reused document bundlesSecond or subsequent visa applications - Take care
Having a bilingual relative or in-house staff member prepare the translation
Fluency is not certification. A translation produced by an interested party carries no verifiable practitioner number and cannot be checked in the directory, so the assessor has no basis to accept it. Even an accurate rendering will usually be set aside on that ground alone.
All document types - Critical
Opening the certified PDF and correcting something before lodging
Any edit made after certification breaks the link between the practitioner and the document they attested to, and digital tampering is visible in file metadata. If a genuine error exists, send it back for a corrected reissue rather than adjusting the file yourself.

Applying Australian expectations to a New Zealand application without checking
New Zealand agencies set their own list of acceptable translation providers, and a NAATI-certified translation is not automatically the only route or always the required one. Read the receiving agency's own translation page for the visa or registration category involved before ordering.
New Zealand immigrationTrans-Tasman registration - Take care
Replacing the underlying source document after translation work has started
Requesting a freshly issued civil registry extract midway through means a new reference number, a new issue date and sometimes a different layout, so the translation must be redone against the new original. Decide which physical copy will actually be lodged, then start translation from that exact copy.
